What is Ramsnoot?

The word ramsnoot is a term that my grandfather routinely used to describe searching for "treasure" at second-hand stores, flea markets and garage sales (where he shopped exclusively).

"I reckon I can do some ramsnootin' down at the Goodwill."

"I'm goin' out ramsnootin' today."

I'm not sure if he made this word up, or if it was actually part of his hillbilly vernacular. Nevertheless, I deemed it awesome and this site pays homage to both the term and the practice of ramsnootin' itself.
